How Much Do Laundry Items Weigh?

Comforters and duvet inserts can weigh anywhere from 5–15+ pounds depending on size and fill type. King-size and down-filled options are especially heavy and require a large-capacity washer to clean properly.
Mattress covers typically weigh 3–8 pounds depending on thickness and size. Waterproof or padded versions are heavier and absorb more water during washing.
Dog beds can range from 5–20+ pounds depending on size and stuffing. Larger beds hold a surprising amount of water, making high-capacity machines the best choice.
Washable rugs often weigh 4–15 pounds, depending on size and backing material. Even thin rugs become significantly heavier once fully saturated.
Winter coats usually weigh between 3–10 pounds, with down or heavy insulated coats on the higher end. When wet, they can double in weight due to water absorption.
Couch cushion covers alone may only weigh 1–3 pounds each, but washing multiple covers together adds up quickly. Heavier fabric blends and thicker upholstery materials increase total load weight.
